Savanna Elephant: Guardians of the Grasslands

The savanna elephant is a majestic presence, embodying the spirit of Africa’s grasslands. At the zoo, "Jumbo," the largest and most charismatic elephant, has become a visitor favorite. Standing at over three meters tall, Jumbo impresses everyone with his immense size and playful demeanor.

Jumbo’s day begins with a hearty breakfast of hay, fresh fruits, and vegetables. His keepers ensure his meals are enriched with essential vitamins and minerals to keep him healthy and strong. One of Jumbo’s favorite activities is playing in the mud pool. Mud not only cools him down on warm days but also serves as a natural sunscreen and insect repellent. Watching him splash around with his trunk is a delight for guests, especially children.

Zookeepers engage Jumbo in enrichment activities to stimulate his mind and mimic his natural behaviors. They hide treats in barrels or inside logs, encouraging him to use his powerful trunk to forage and solve problems. Jumbo also participates in regular training sessions, where he willingly lifts his feet or stretches out his trunk to assist with health checks. His intelligence and cooperation are a testament to the bond he shares with his caretakers.
